What is Hospice?
Hospice care is for individuals who can no longer benefit from curative medical treatment. Rather, the goal is to control pain and other symptoms to make the patient’s life as comfortable as possible. Hospice and palliative care is a philosophy of care that can result in a significant improvement in a person’s quality of life. Hospice provides care that is centered on the patient and family.
Location of Hospice Services
Hospice services can be received anywhere a person calls home. Individuals can receive services in facilities such as assisted living communities, nursing homes, or hospice facilities. Care is provided 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Length of Hospice Services
A patient may switch in and out of hospice services as a medical condition improves or deteriorates. For example, if a patient experiences a period of relief from the symptoms of an illness, hospice service can be stopped and resumed again if the symptoms reoccur or the condition advances.
